What is the PICSI method?
This is a modification of the ICSI method designed to select the optimal sperm. The method involves mature sperm binding to a specially treated surface of a petri dish on which a hyaluronan gel is applied.
What is the principle behind this method?
Hyaluronan is an important natural component of the egg envelope, and it is the head of the mature sperm that carries a specific receptor that allows it to bind to hyaluronan. Therefore, with the PICSI method, the embryologist selects those spermatozoa that show positive binding to the hyaluronan gel for micromanipulation fertilization.
Why choose PICSI?
Using PICSI, sperm of optimal maturity can be selected to fertilize the egg. It is believed that the mature sperm, once introduced into the cytoplasm of the egg, is more likely to lead to fertilization and the development of a viable embryo.

If the proportion of fertilized eggs has been low in previous cycles, the embryos have not developed optimally or there has been a miscarriage, choose the PICSI method for fertilization. PICSI uses the principles and advantages of spontaneous fertilization, where only mature sperm fertilizes the egg, and the ICSI method, where sperm is injected directly into the cytoplasm of the egg.
